A combination that you often encounter in the world of corporate and promotional clothing: combed cotton with elastane. You often come across this duo for a reason. In themselves they already have unique properties and together some of the benefits are further enhanced. In this blog, L&S explains what is so special about the loose materials and the combination thereof.
Combed cotton
Combed cotton is composed of long fibre cotton which gives it a very smooth surface. Why that is important? The fabric is so tight that it does not shed. And what doesn't fluff is nice and soft and comfortable. In itself, combed cotton clothing is already suitable for printing and embroidery. Ring-spun: means that the yarn is made soft and smooth by an innovative spinning process and each fibre is straightened by an extra bobbin thread. This results in a softer, more refined fabric which greatly increases the wearing comfort. Combed ring-spun cotton is even softer and smoother. This also improves the print quality of the fabric. The fewer irregularities, the better the fabric can be printed.
Elastane
Elastane (also known as spandex) is an artificial fibre with very high elasticity. When you put the material under tension, you can stretch it up to six times its own length. It is often mixed into other fabrics to make clothes more flexible and elastic.
Golden combination: combed cotton and elastane
Thanks to modern knitting techniques, elastane can now be used proportionately in combed cotton. That is nice, because this even spread ensures an even smoother fabric. Add elastane to combed cotton and you get good stretchability of the fabric. Clothes with these materials have a perfect bodyfit for a reason! The combination of the soft cotton with the elasticity of elastane ensures flexible and pleasant clothing. Suitable for any time of the day and for printing!
